Salmon is a weekly request in our house — and when both kids are excited about seafood, you better believe I’m adding it to the meal plan on repeat. These salmon bites have quickly become one of our go-to dinners because they’re fast, flavorful, and totally kid-approved.

On especially busy days, I’ll prep the bites earlier in the afternoon so when dinnertime rolls around, all I have to do is sear them and get dinner on the table in minutes. It’s the kind of simple, stress-free meal that makes weeknights easier while still serving something wholesome and delicious. I'll even sometimes make these crispy salmon bites alongside my garlic shrimp. They compliment each other perfectly!

    Why This Recipe Works

    1. Health and Nutrition - Salmon is renowned for its health benefits, thanks to its high omega-3 fatty acid content, which is excellent for heart health. By turning it into bite-sized snacks, you can enjoy these benefits in a delicious and convenient way.
    2. Flavorful Versatility - Salmon bites are incredibly versatile. You can customize the seasoning and dipping sauces to suit your palate, making them as mild or as spicy as you like. They make for an excellent appetizer, snack, or even a light meal.
    3. Easy Preparation - Making salmon bites is surprisingly easy and quick. With just a handful of ingredients and straightforward steps, you can whip up a batch in no time, making them perfect for busy weeknights or last-minute gatherings.

    Ingredients

    • Salmon - One pound with skin off is enough to give everyone a 4 ounce portion of salmon bites.
    • Spices - I use a combination of salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, dried oregano
    • Oil - I use a grapeseed oil for this recipe as its neutral and doesn't mess with the flavors.
    • Butter- You'll need two tablespoons of butter for this recipe. One tablespoon is used to melt in with the oil and the other tablespoon is used for finishing off the salmon.

    Directions

Clear package with a filet of salmon cubed with a knife next to it.

Rinse and skin the salmon if needed. Then cut into 1-inch chunks.

White bowl filled with cubed raw salmon with seasoning mixed in it.

Mix all the spices together in a bowl. Sprinkle over salmon bites until well coated.

Brown frying pan with raw salmon frying in pan on black stove top.

Heat a large skillet over medium heat until very hot. Add the grapeseed oil and 1 tablespoon of the butter to the pan. Once melted add the salmon in a single layer. Sear for 2-3 minutes, or until nice and brown.

Cooked salmon cubed with butter in a frying pan on a black stove top.

Then flip over using tongs and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Add additional butter if desired to give an extra crispy outside. Once done, divide among plates and enjoy.

    FAQs

Can I use frozen salmon for this recipe?

Yes, you can use frozen salmon, but be sure to thaw it completely before preparing the salmon bites.

Can I bake the salmon bites instead of frying them?

Yes, you can bake them in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 15-20 minutes, turning them halfway through for even cooking.

Can I use different seasonings for the coating?

Absolutely! Feel free to experiment with your favorite seasonings, such as lemon zest, cayenne pepper, or Old Bay seasoning, to add unique flavors.

    Tips and Tricks

Here are a few tips and tricks when making salmon bites.

    • Crispy - To achieve the crispiest texture, make sure the oil is hot before adding the salmon bites. You can test it by dropping a small breadcrumb into the oil; it should sizzle and bubble immediately.
    • Wire Rack - Use a wire rack to drain the fried salmon bites if you have one; this helps to keep them crispy by allowing excess oil to drip off.
    • Sauces - Serve your salmon bites with a variety of dipping sauces to cater to different tastes and preferences.
    • Healthier Version - If you want a healthier option, consider using an air fryer to cook the salmon which would reduce the amount of oil and butter used.

Salmon bites are a delightful and easy-to-make snack or appetizer that brings together the health benefits of salmon with the deliciousness of a crispy coating. With its versatility and crowd-pleasing appeal, this recipe is a must-try for seafood lovers and foodies alike. So, gather your ingredients, follow the steps, and get ready to savor every bite of these delectable salmon treats.
